More and more Boomers are considering retirement jobs or even whole new retirement careers because either:

  • They been forced into early retirement.
  • Or they're just plain fed up with the tom-foolery of their current job situation.
  • Or they know they need to supplement their income at least for a certain period of time.
  • Or they want to keep "busy" for a while longer and feel that a little extra cash is better than volunteering.
  • Or a combination of the above.

Traditionally, these jobs have been low paying retail, school bus drivers, seasonal work, couriers, teachers assistants and the like. However, now we're starting to see retirees taking on brand new retirement careers---and loving it! So, what really is a retirement job now-days? Anything you want it to be, Boomer. How's that for a wide open opportunity?

Home Based

  • Many people are using the knowledge they've gained from their hobbies to start their own business. (This link is to a video from MSN Money Talks. You'll need to let it load first and you'll have to watch a short commercial. Sorry, but the info is a good example for creating your own career.)
  • Or you could do what a lot of us 50 and over are doing and create an income producing website or even several websites!. Simply by drawing on your own personal interests and experience.Just take a look at what these 50+ers have accomplished.
  • Did you know that you can be a call center employee from your home? Here are a couple of employers looking for call center employees Alpine Access.
  • Of course you can always do on-line auctions through someone like Ebay.
  • Or did you ever think about doing surveys from home? My Survey employs home based surveyors as does Survey Savvy.

Do you like to shop?
Have you ever thought about being a mystery shopper? I understand you can earn between $50 and $100 per assignment!

And non-profit organizations such as Common Good Careers , and Bridgstar are a good resources for retirement jobs.

And there's always Career Builder and Monster that have jobs posted on them.
